Through generosity and support, we want to positively impact children, families, the community, and even the world.
Dr. Wilkerson and the team at Children’s Dentistry strive to make an impact in the office, the Charleston, WV community, and beyond. Find out some of the ways we stay involved, plus discover how you can help or donate, too.
Piedmont Elementary School
We want to help Piedmont Elementary raise funds for a new playground – Celebration Station.
Why?
This is a local school that could use our support to replace the 25 year old play equipment.
Make a donation and then flock the yard of another business that you know could help. Take photos and tag us on Facebook.

Kanawha County Animal Shelter
Here’s the thing about the Children’s Dentistry team: We love teeth, kids, and pets (not necessarily in that order). Each month, we vote on an employee of the month, and inevitably, more than one person a year will choose to support a local animal shelter. We love to bond with our patients by talking about their pets, and it’s even better when patients can get involved too. Once a year. we collect needed items for shelter animals, and we are always overwhelmed by the response. We also sponsor an honorary dog and cat, covering their adoption costs so their new owners can start their “furever home.” Follow our Facebook page to see who we selected this year as Children’s Dentistry Super Pets.
Toys for Tots
There’s almost nothing better than seeing how excited children get around the holidays. Our patients are always so enthusiastic to talk about it! However, we also understand that many kids in our area can’t experience aspects of the holiday without the generosity of others. That’s why we work with our patients to help supply toys for local children. With the help of the Marines, we became a drop center for the Toys for Tots program this past year. The team kicked things off with our own donations, but we couldn’t have anticipated the generosity of our family of patients. At one point, donated toys started to spill out of our (very large) bin, which was overwhelming! These donations were a blessing, and we’re happy to say we have the best patients in the world.
Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of WV
The Clay Center is an unbelievable treasure in our state. This unique venue lets kids and adults alike discover a world of music, theater, art, and science – all under one roof. Children’s Dentistry understands that they have so much to offer our patients, and we know how memorable those family experiences can be. As such, we support interactive exhibits, live performances, holiday parties, and summer camps at the Clay Center.
Dr. Wilkerson was a member of the board for several years, so she truly believes in Clay Center’s mission. She and her family can often be found enjoying events at the Clay Center! The art and science museum is a great place to stop if you’re traveling from out of town for dental treatment, as many of our patients do. We intend to keep supporting the enriching efforts of the Clay Center.
United Way of Central West Virginia
We understand that while help is needed globally, often the biggest impact one can make is in their own community. That’s why we work with the United Way of Central West Virginia to reach people right in our backyard. Thanks to this wonderful organization, we have a unique opportunity to meet the needs of local adults and children in big and small ways. They understand that books or a new pair of tennis shoes can make a major impact on the life of a child. To assist the United Way of Central West Virginia, we collected books and shoes from patients. We also ran a “Sealant for Shoes” campaign where a portion of the money spent on sealants was used to purchase new shoes for the “equal footing” shoe donation initiative of the United Way. We feel a special bond with this organization, and they love to partner with our patients to help our fellow West Virginians.
Union Mission Food Drive
Each year, Union Mission donates food to thousands of people. During the holiday season, we organize a food drive in the office to fill as many barrels as possible and help those in need.
Our awesome patients are always willing to help by donating canned goods, and kids enjoy joining in too. In addition, the food drive helps children understand the importance of giving back.
Alzheimer's Association
Dr. Tom, Dr. Tracy Wilkerson’s father, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2000. Since living through her father’s diagnosis, Dr. Tracy Wilkerson and her family have been committed to helping this organization find a cure for the disease.
Our dentist joins with the Alzheimer’s Association to help eliminate the disease by advancing research, providing and enhancing support and care for those affected, and reducing the risk of dementia by promoting brain health. We look forward to sponsoring the fundraiser walk once again soon.
Heart Of The Mountain Mission
Heart Of The Mountain Mission is a non-profit organization located in West Virginia and serves La Digue Matheux, Haiti. The mission strives to serve God by working with the people and community of Haiti – to provide medical and dental relief, educational opportunities, entrepreneurial assistance, and overall improvement in living conditions and nutrition.
Children’s Dentistry provides dental supplies to the kids in this area, and Dr. Wilkerson visits the region regularly with her family. Our goal is to one day start a permanent dental clinic for the residents in Haiti.
Kanawha County Dental Health Council
Dr. Wilkerson has been on the Kanawha County Dental Health Council Board of Directors for over 15 years and serves as the current vice president (her father, Dr. Thomas Wilkerson, held this position before her). For over 50 years, this group has been helping the students of Kanawha County who have no dental coverage or are from difficult economic situations. It allows children to access dental health during the school day at no cost to the patient.
While affordable dental care becomes a more significant burden each year with the changing economy, this group works tirelessly to help Kanawha County school children. Recently, we asked our patients to color a picture after their appointment with us, and for each image, we donated a contribution to the Kanawha County Dental Health Council. We loved seeing the kids participate and create fantastic artwork!

Dr. Thomas Wilkerson Scholarship
Guiding young people into a dental career.
The Dr. Thomas Wilkerson Scholarship is awarded to patients pursuing a career in dentistry or dental hygiene. Each recipient receives a $500 check towards their studies, and winners are selected based on essay submissions detailing why the field was chosen, who inspires them, and how they plan to impact our community of West Virginia in the future.
We collect essays each year from patients pursuing a dentistry career and look forward to helping our youth in their endeavors. Congratulations to our recent scholarship recipients, and we wish you all the best!
